Crimea Day 2

As usual, I was up at the crack of dawn and went out onto our balcony to be greeted again by dolphins cruising by and the sun rising.

My European friends are a bit slow to get going in the morning, so I manage to find coffee and sit and watch the scenery and relax in the morning sun where I start to build a tan. We begin our day with brekkie in the complex with omelettes, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee. then begin the walk to the bus stop to catch a bus to Yalta

The long walk to the bus stop.
All up hill and steep !

The bus finally arrives & we hop on & cram in with the rest of the locals. It was a mini bus and with no ventilation, it was like a sauna ! The driver kept stopping to take on more passangers but they just couldn't get in. Finally we arrived in Yalta and breathed the fresh salty air! Yalta lies on the gently curving shore of Yalta Bay (Yaltinsky Zaliv) with two rivers flowing at opposite angles into the sea. We hop on a trolley bus and head for the prominade

Eee, these arent the best.
Getting out of first is
a crunch!!

You can get dressed up as a bikie (powered wigs, spiky leather jackets) and have your pic taken on the many bikes displayed as souvenir photo props.
We hop on a boat and head out to the Swallows Nest. It sits / overhangs on a sheer cliff and was built in 1912 for German oil mangnate Baron Steingel as a present to his mistress. It actually houses an Italian restaurant that is expensive and according to the reviews, not even a good one at that.

Germay, Poland.
Australia !

Ok, enough birds nest. We are now hungry and still have one more assignment before the day ends. So lets eat and have a beer !

Food at last!

And a cold beer!

But there is more! We.... Masha, talks to the waiter and asks how to get to the Cable Car ride. It sits atop of Mt. Ay-Petri, a dizzy ride by cab (Lada), accross the foothills and up the mountains sheer face. The taxi driver was really nice and quoted all the tourist information to Masha who translated to English ( Thanks Princess!). We stopped at a waterfall, that during its peak (late winter) is bursting with water from the melting snow. When we arrived, it was a trickle, but non the less, something else to see.

And I almost talked Mishka into buying a new pair of shoes ! Mishka, they would have gone well with your work attire !
Onto Mt. Ay-Petri, where you can take a camel ride, eat the local tucker, view the world from 1200 metres. By the time we got there is was gettin onto 5pm and the cable car closes at 6pm. Masha did the local thing and found out that they would get everyone off the mountain even though the queue was long. so we reserved a place in the wueue and did some sight seeing.

The queue to get the cable car down

The view from the top !

The cable car that we would trust our lives in!

Some of the local food stalls

Some of Mishkas

It was cold and time to go down!

Finally off the hill and food. A nice meal a few drinks and home to bed !!!!

Mishka are you bored ??

Oh... He is awake !!!

Home to the apartment
and ........ whatever !

It was a long day!

My sincere thanks to Masha for her help with translation in the tourist spots and the restaurants. It was a huge effort given the circumstances and you excelled! Day two done and dusted....... what lies ahead on day three !!!

Stay tuned folks......
